The literary societies are a vital factor in the educational programs of the universities and colleges. The Sargodhian Literary Society has been established with the aim of promoting literary activities among the students. The students are expected to secure the necessary literary training through participating in different activities organized by the society.
The vision of the Sargodhian Literary Society is to provide students with a space they could truly call their own. This student organization will fill the void left by a curriculum that was often disconnected from both the real world and the academic interests of the students. It will provide a realm wherein students might take control of their intellectual and social development in meaningful ways.
The mission of the Sargodhian Literary Society is the advancement of literature and arts; and all other necessary provisions that may conduce to the education of our students. It strives to create knowledge, to open the minds of students to that knowledge, and to enable students to take best advantage of their educational opportunities. To these ends, it encourages students to respect ideas and their free expression, and to rejoice in discovery and in critical thought; to pursue excellence in a spirit of productive cooperation; and to assume responsibility for the consequences of personal actions.
Sargodhian Literary Society seeks to identify and to remove restraints on students’ full participation, so that individuals may explore their capabilities and interests and may develop their full intellectual and human potential. It will liberate students to explore, to create, to challenge, and to lead.
Proposed activities (Dec 2014 to Feb 2015)
The Sargodhian Literary Society has planned few activities for the period Dec 2014 to Feb 2015 which are as follows:
Newsletter Aug-Nov 2014
A newsletter would be published by the end of December 2014 encompassing all the achievements and activities of the university, teachers as well as students.
The Birth Anniversary of Quiad e Azam, 25th Dec 2014
In collaboration with other societies, a function would be organized in which the students would celebrate the birth anniversary of Quiad e Azam. The tribute would be given to the great leader through speeches, poetry recitation and excerpts.
Writing is an essential skill in which our students usually lack. Most of them find it useless or boring to learn. So to motivate them, a writing contest would be organized by the mid of January 2015 to enhance the writing skills of the students.
Creative Writing Forum
A Creative Writing Forum is planned by our society. Under this forum, the aspiring young poets and writers will be invited to recite their works in front of the audience and certificates will be distributed to encourage the young blood.
The society has planned to set-up a book bank for the needy students where other students will share their textbooks, reference books and the books related to general topics.
Along with the activities listed above, the Literary Society is working on the annual magazine as well. For that purpose, the members of Literary Society are collecting the original articles, poems, essays, pictures, stories created or penned down by our students.
